FAQs and Notes
Who is required to take Confined Space Training?
Confined Space Training is required for workers who enter confined spaces, perform related work, supervise confined space operations, or act as attendants or rescue personnel. Employers are responsible for ensuring workers receive adequate training related to the specific confined space hazards and procedures in their workplace.
Are there any prerequisites for Confined Space Training?
There are typically no formal prerequisites for basic Confined Space Awareness or Entry training. However, additional site-specific training, equipment training, and employer-specific procedures may be required depending on the work being performed and the hazards present in the confined space.
How long is Confined Space Training valid?
Confined Space Training does not have a universal expiry date under Ontario legislation. However, employers are required to ensure workers remain competent and adequately trained for the work being performed. Refresher training may be required based on employer policies, site requirements, changes in procedures or equipment, or when a worker’s knowledge or competency needs to be reviewed.
Does this course qualify me to enter a confined space?
This course provides participants with the knowledge and awareness required for confined space work; however, additional workplace-specific training and instruction are required before entering a confined space. Employers must ensure workers are trained on the specific confined spaces, hazards, equipment, entry procedures, and rescue plans applicable to their workplace
What additional training is required for confined space entry?
Additional training may include workplace-specific confined space procedures, hazard assessments, atmospheric testing, rescue procedures, lockout/tagout, respiratory protection, fall protection, PPE use, and equipment-specific training depending on the work environment and confined space hazards.
