FAQs and Notes

Participants will learn the differences between Policy Health & Safety Committees, Work Place Committees, and Health & Safety Representatives, along with their legal requirements, roles, responsibilities, and powers under the Canada Labour Code Part II. The course also explains how the Internal Responsibility System supports collaboration between employers and employees to prevent workplace injuries and incidents.

This course teaches participants how to establish clear Terms of Reference, develop committee goals and objectives, improve communication, and create well-structured recommendations that drive real workplace improvements. Participants gain practical tools that help committees move beyond compliance and become active leaders in workplace safety.

Health and safety is a shared responsibility. This course helps participants navigate legislative requirements and understand the duties owed by employers, employees, supervisors, and committee members. By understanding everyone’s responsibilities, organizations can improve accountability, strengthen safety culture, and reduce workplace risk.

A Workplace Health & Safety Committee plays an important role in supporting a safe and healthy work environment. Committee members work collaboratively with employers and employees to identify hazards, participate in inspections and investigations, review health and safety concerns, and help ensure compliance with the Canada Labour Code, Part II.
